In response to the news that Harthill Against Fracking have lost their legal case against the decision for an Ineos shale gas well to be sited near their homes; Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesperson for N-E Derbyshire, Ross Shipman said:
“This makes a nonsense of Lee Rowley’s position that local people should be allowed to decide on fracking applications in their area.
“The government has ridden roughshod over the wishes and concerns of local residents to push through this unwanted practice.
“Environmental issues don’t stop at constituency boundaries. The proximity of Harthill to North East Derbyshire is a concern to our residents. The numerous suspension of operations at Preston New Road have shown time and time again that the practice is not considered safe.
“The Liberal Democrats call on the government to abandon this blind alley and invest in renewable energy sources.”
