Our vital infrastructure should not be flogged off to China – Lib Dems

Today the government announced the shortlist of bidders for the HS2 franchise, amongst them was a joint venture with Chinese company Guangshen Railway company and MTR.

Commenting on the news Shadow Transport Secretary Jenny Randerson said:

“Our vital infrastructure should not just be flogged off to the highest bidder.

“This means that operations could be run from as far away as China. In terms of national security, jobs and economic benefit, this is a kick in the teeth for British industry.

“First nuclear and now our railways should not be sold off in a desperate ploy for a post-Brexit trade deal with China.”

Lib Dem Campaigner, Sam Jones said:

“We should be focusing on having these services ran from inside the UK.”

“This Conservative government are only interested in focusing on their time running the country; which we all know will end sooner rather than later.”

“U.K citizens deserve better than our government wanting a quick buck while accountability of who’s running our services sits miles away.”
